Abuja (Naija Blog) – June 30, 2025 — The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday, June 30, through Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, June 29, NiMet warned of possible thunderstorms (with or without rain) expected especially in the northern and central regions during both morning and evening hours, while the southern region will experience cloudy skies and light rainfall.
Northern Region:
Monday: Morning thunderstorms are likely over Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna States, while other areas will remain sunny with cloud patches. Thunderstorms with rain are forecast for the afternoon/evening in Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, and Gombe.
Tuesday: Scattered thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, and Bauchi. Afternoon rains are also likely in Kano, Jigawa, and Taraba.
Wednesday: Morning thunderstorms are predicted over Zamfara, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna. The afternoon may bring heavy rain in Bauchi, Jigawa, and Adamawa.
Central Region:
Monday: Morning thunderstorms with rain are expected in Niger, Plateau, and the FCT. Isolated thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon in Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi.
Tuesday: Morning showers are anticipated in the FCT, Niger, and Benue, with more rain expected in Nasarawa and Plateau by evening.
Wednesday: Cloudy skies in the morning will give way to moderate rainfall across most central states in the afternoon and evening.
Southern Region:
Monday: Light morning rain is expected in Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Afternoon thunderstorms with light showers may affect states such as Oyo, Imo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
Tuesday: Morning rain will likely occur in Akwa Ibom and Cross River, with widespread thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Light rains are forecast throughout the day across the entire southern region.
NiMet also warned that strong winds may precede rainstorms, and advised the public to take precautions, including:
Securing loose objects to prevent damage or injury
Avoiding driving under heavy rainfall
Disconnecting electrical appliances during storms
Staying away from tall trees
Airline operators were also urged to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet for flight planning and safety.
