Politics Is Inevitable, But Governance Comes First — Governor Mbah

Abuja (Naija Blog)
 – Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has firmly denied reports suggesting he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming his continued loyalty to the party.

Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) on Saturday in Enugu, Governor Mbah said, “I am still in the PDP. As you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP.”

He acknowledged that while the PDP is facing internal challenges, it is not the party alone that is in crisis, adding that the issues would soon be resolved.

Commenting on the idea of independent candidacy, Mbah noted that Nigeria’s constitution does not permit candidates to run independently, stressing the unavoidable role of political parties in the country’s democratic process.

“So you must still do the politics as you cannot completely shield yourself from it,” he said.

He also emphasized his administration’s focus on governance and service delivery, noting that ultimate power lies in the hands of the people.

“It is clear from the people of Enugu State that we are in this to serve them. I believe that at the end of the day, the people would have to decide whether they want to renew our mandate or kick us out,” he added.
