Zenith Bank Plc has reported an actual loss of N376 million to fraud and forgeries during the six months ended June 30, 2026, following 171 reported fraud cases.
The disclosure was contained in the bank’s second-quarter financial statement published on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) platform on Tuesday.
According to the report, the bank received 7,914 customer complaints during the period and resolved approximately 6,780 as of June 30.
The number of complaints received was higher than the 7,599 recorded during the corresponding period in 2025, although the bank reported 8,503 resolved complaints for that period.
The report also disclosed that claims arising from customer complaints totalled N67.2 billion, representing a decline from the N92.77 billion recorded in the same period of the previous year.
Zenith Bank stated that it had complied with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) requirements for submitting monthly returns on fraud and forgeries, in line with Section 24 of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act 2020 and relevant regulatory guidelines.
Zenith Bank Records N637.6bn Profit Before Tax
Despite the reported fraud losses, Zenith Bank recorded a profit before tax (PBT) of N637.6 billion for the six-month period, compared with N625.6 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.
However, the bank’s profit after tax (PAT) declined to N430.7 billion from N532 billion recorded in the first half of 2025.
The financial statement also showed that the bank’s gross earnings fell to N1.899 trillion during the period, compared with N2.5 trillion reported in the corresponding period of the previous year.
In addition, Zenith Bank’s tax expense increased significantly to N206.8 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2026, from N93 billion recorded in the same period of 2025.
The figures highlight mixed financial performance for the bank, with an increase in profit before tax but declines in gross earnings and profit after tax, alongside reported losses from fraud and forgeries.
