Unprecedented Political Consensus Behind Tinubu's Re-election Bid, Says Governor Soludo

ABUJA, October 15, 2026
 — Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as an unprecedented level of consensus in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Soludo made the remarks during the inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, where he highlighted the participation of governors and political stakeholders from different party affiliations in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to a report issued by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), the Anambra governor emphasised cross-party cooperation, economic reforms and the importance of political leadership in national development.

Soludo, who was elected governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was based on shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.

He pointed to the participation of approximately 31 state governors at the gathering, describing it as evidence of a broad political alignment around the President.

However, the observation concerned the political support expressed at the event and did not necessarily amount to a formal endorsement of Tinubu by every governor or Nigerian voter.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also defended the economic philosophy underpinning the Tinubu administration’s policies, describing its approach as pragmatic progressivism.

Drawing on his background as an economist, Soludo argued that the administration had taken difficult policy decisions to address structural problems confronting the Nigerian economy rather than postpone necessary reforms.

He maintained that the government inherited an economy facing significant challenges and had introduced reforms aimed at stabilisation, recovery and long-term prosperity.

Soludo also credited Tinubu’s understanding of public finance with influencing the direction of the administration’s economic policies, insisting that the reforms should be assessed against the structural challenges confronting the country.

While supporters of the administration have pointed to economic adjustments and reform initiatives as evidence of progress, critics have continued to question how quickly the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians.

Despite the concerns, Soludo maintained that the administration’s policies demonstrated a willingness to confront longstanding economic problems and establish the foundation for future growth.

His appearance at the APC campaign council inauguration has also drawn attention to the relationship between party affiliation and political cooperation, given his continued membership of APGA.

The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team said Soludo’s intervention placed economic policy and institutional performance at the centre of discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election.

The forum further emphasised the role of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information about public-sector performance.
