Suspected thugs have attacked the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, raising fresh concerns over political violence ahead of the electoral process.
The attack, reported on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, reportedly left parts of the party’s secretariat vandalised, with a video circulating online showing damaged property at the facility.
No death was reported in the Edo incident as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes barely a week after an attack on the NDC campaign office in Enugu’s Government Reserved Area (GRA), where a party member, Nworie Christopher, was reportedly shot dead.
Christopher, who hailed from Affa in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, died from gunshot injuries sustained during the October 10, 2026, attack.
According to the party, the deceased was among its supporters allegedly attacked by armed thugs during a gathering at the campaign office of its governorship candidate, Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa.
The latest incident in Edo has heightened concerns among civil society organisations and political commentators, who have warned that repeated attacks on political party offices could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
In a video showing the vandalised Edo secretariat, a woman accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of responsibility for the incident. However, the allegation had not been independently established as of the time of reporting.
The back-to-back incidents have renewed calls for security agencies to investigate attacks on political party facilities, protect party members and ensure that political activities take place without intimidation or violence.
