Tinubu Urges Journalists to Put Nigeria First, Avoid Amplifying Terrorists

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian journalists to place the nation’s interest above sensational reporting, warning that irresponsible media coverage can unintentionally strengthen terrorist and criminal groups.

Speaking at the inaugural Presidential Press Corps Dinner held at the State House in Abuja, the President urged media professionals to exercise responsibility while reporting on security issues. He stressed that the press must not become a platform for terrorists and kidnappers seeking publicity or to spread fear among citizens.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to press freedom, noting that freedom of expression remains a cornerstone of democracy. However, he emphasized that these rights must be exercised responsibly, especially at a time when Nigeria continues to confront security challenges.

The President also described the media as a vital partner in nation-building, encouraging journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and ethical standards while informing the public.
