FG Announces Training for 5,000 Nigerians in New Electricity Programme

The Federal Government has announced plans to train 5,000 Nigerians in smart meter management as part of efforts to improve electricity services across the country. The programme is expected to equip participants with technical skills while supporting the nationwide rollout of smart electricity meters.

According to officials, the initiative aims to reduce the shortage of skilled workers in the power sector and improve the installation, maintenance, and management of smart meters. The government believes this will help address issues such as estimated billing and improve transparency in electricity consumption.

The training programme is also expected to create employment opportunities for young Nigerians interested in the energy sector. Participants will receive practical knowledge that could help them secure jobs with electricity distribution companies or start businesses offering meter-related services.

Many stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, saying it could improve power service delivery while creating new career opportunities. As preparations begin, interested Nigerians are encouraged to watch for official announcements on application requirements and registration dates.
