President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disclosed that the Ansaru terrorist group was responsible for the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The President made the revelation in a personally signed statement on Friday shortly after the Presidency confirmed the successful rescue of the victims by security operatives.
Expressing gratitude over the outcome of the operation, Tinubu said Nigeria had every reason to celebrate the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers, noting that they were rescued alive and unharmed.
He commended the security forces for what he described as their courage, discipline and professionalism, adding that the operation was carried out without the payment of any ransom or concessions to the terrorists.
"Tonight, our nation has reason to give thanks," the President said.
"The children and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State have been rescued by our security forces, alive and unharmed. No ransom was paid. No concession was made."
Tinubu praised the officers and operatives involved in the rescue mission, saying their commitment ensured the victims were returned safely to their families.
"I salute every officer and operative whose courage, discipline, and professionalism made this possible," he stated.
The President also issued a strong warning to terrorist groups and other criminal elements, declaring that his administration would continue to pursue those responsible for acts of terror across the country.
"To those who seek to spread fear through terror, know that the Nigerian state will pursue you relentlessly. We will protect our people, defend our communities, and never relent until peace and security prevail across our country," he added.
The President's statement came hours after the Presidency announced the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, ending more than 50 days in captivity and bringing relief to their families and the people of Oyo State.
