Argentina Stun England With Late Comeback to Set Up World Cup Final Clash Against Spain

Defending champions Argentina produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat England and secure their place in the FIFA World Cup final, where they will face Spain on Sunday.

England appeared destined for the final after Anthony Gordon gave Thomas Tuchel's side the lead in the 55th minute, finishing from a well-worked cross by Morgan Rogers.

The Three Lions defended resolutely for much of the second half, with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford making a series of crucial saves to deny Argentina as Lionel Scaloni's men piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser.

Argentina's persistence finally paid off in the 85th minute when Lionel Messi found Enzo Fernandez on the edge of the penalty area. The midfielder fired a powerful strike beyond Pickford to level the score and breathe new life into the contest.

Just as the match appeared to be heading into extra time, Argentina completed a remarkable turnaround deep into stoppage time. Messi delivered another precise cross into the box, where substitute Lautaro Martinez headed into an empty net in the 92nd minute to send the reigning champions into another World Cup final.

England threw everything forward during nine minutes of added time in search of an equaliser, but goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and the Argentina defence stood firm to preserve the victory.

Argentina will now face Spain in Sunday's final after La Roja booked their place with a composed 2-0 victory over France in Dallas.

Spain continued their impressive defensive run at the tournament by keeping another clean sheet, having conceded only one goal in seven matches.

The final is expected to be a thrilling encounter between two of international football's biggest nations, with Argentina aiming to retain the World Cup title while Spain seeks to win the tournament for the first time since their triumph in South Africa in 2010.
