Drug trafficking is a serious criminal offence. Members of the public are encouraged to stay away from illicit drugs and report suspicious activities to security agencies. Say No to Drugs. Say No to Crime.
A suspected drug trafficker has been arrested after security operatives intercepted a large consignment of cannabis weighing approximately 235 kilograms along the busy Lokoja–Abuja Highway.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect was apprehended during a routine operation carried out by law enforcement officers on the highway. During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly discovered multiple packages of cannabis carefully concealed and being transported to an undisclosed destination.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while the seized drugs were recovered as evidence and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Lokoja–Abuja Highway is regarded as one of Nigeria’s major transport routes, linking the Federal Capital Territory with several states across the country. Security agencies have intensified surveillance along the corridor in recent months as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
Authorities are yet to disclose the identity of the suspect, the exact location of the arrest, or whether additional suspects are being sought in connection with the operation. Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the source of the cannabis and its intended destination.
Officials have reiterated their commitment to tackling the illegal drug trade and warned traffickers that security agencies will continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and highway patrols across the country.
