The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has issued a stern warning to police officers, cautioning them against extorting commercial tricycle (Keke) riders and motorists in Abuja.
Speaking during an address to officers, the police chief stressed that any personnel found engaging in extortion would be regarded as criminals rather than law enforcement officers.
“We don’t want to hear any reports of extorting Keke riders or motorists in Abuja. If we hear it, you are a thief. You cannot be both a police officer and a thief,” CP Sanusi said.
His remarks have drawn praise from many Nigerians on social media, with citizens expressing hope that the warning will translate into greater accountability and professionalism among officers serving in the nation’s capital.
The statement comes amid ongoing calls for reforms and improved public trust in policing across the country.
