The Senate President described the passing of Elder Ubeng as a “rude shock” and a deeply personal loss.
In a condolence message personally signed by him, Akpabio said he received the news of Ubeng’s death with disbelief.
“I received the news of the death of Elder Hon Pius Ubeng, whom I shared affinity with as a rude shock. He was not just an in-law; we shared a bond, making his death a personal loss to me,” he stated.
Akpabio noted that the late Ubeng was more than a family relation, portraying him as a man of integrity whose life left lasting impressions on both family members and the wider community.
He described the deceased as a respected community leader and devoted Christian whose conduct reflected strong moral and spiritual values.
“He was a dutiful family man, an adorable community leader, a devout Christian whose manifest conduct in ecclesiastical values earned him the position of a Lay Preacher, Methodist Church,” Akpabio said.
According to the Senate President, Ubeng’s public service career was marked by diligence and commitment.
“As a commissioner in the civil service, he discharged his responsibilities with clinical efficiency and elan,” he added.
Akpabio further lamented that the late elder’s death has created a vacuum within the family and the broader public sphere.
“His death has created a void in the family and a vacuum in the public space. Let us, however, be consoled that he did his best and bequeathed a legacy that we would continue to uphold with pride,” he stated.
The Senate President prayed for the peaceful repose of Ubeng’s soul and asked God to grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
