[JUST IN]: ‘Selective Justice at Play?’ Activist Slams Delta Govt Over Unequal Treatment of Corruption Allegations (Full Details)

Delta State is facing fresh controversy as civil rights activist Comrade Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box Nigeria, has accused the state government of applying double standards in its handling of corruption allegations across ministries.

In a strongly worded statement titled “What Is Good for the Goose Must Be Good for the Gander,” Ojei questioned why similar allegations of financial impropriety have attracted different responses from the same government.

Agriculture vs Energy: Questions Raised

According to the activist, a few months ago, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved the suspension of the Commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Omoun Perekebena Perez, following allegations of financial misconduct. The move, reportedly advised by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, was explained as necessary to allow investigations to proceed without interference.

At the time, the decision was widely applauded by Nigerians as a sign of accountability.

However, Ojei noted that similar allegations have since emerged in the Delta State Ministry of Energy, yet the response from the government has been markedly different.

“Same allegations. Same red flags. Same public outcry. But this time, the response is different,” he said.

Instead of suspension, individuals allegedly linked to the Energy Ministry controversy were reportedly moved to the Office of the Head of Service, a development the activist described as a “soft landing.”

Ethnic or Political Shield?

Ojei openly questioned whether ethnic or senatorial considerations were influencing government decisions, asking why allegations in one ministry led to suspension, while another resulted in reassignment.

He was quick to stress that his criticism was not targeted at any ethnic group, including the Ika people of Delta North.

“This is not an attack on Ika people. This is an attack on double standards,” he emphasized.

‘Accountability Must Be Blind’

The activist further claimed that his group had earlier raised alarms over alleged corruption in the Ministry of Energy but was ignored until recent developments brought the issue back into public focus.

Calling on the Delta State Government to act consistently, Ojei warned that anti-corruption efforts cannot succeed if applied selectively.

“If investigations must be unhindered, then apply the same medicine everywhere. No ethnic shield. No political cover. No sacred cows,” he said.

He concluded with a stern warning that more revelations may follow, insisting that citizens are closely monitoring the government’s actions.

Government Yet to Respond

As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Government has not issued an official response to the allegations raised in the statement.

The controversy has already sparked debates online, with many Nigerians calling for equal application of accountability measures across all sectors of government.
