Ambassador-designate, Reno Omokri, has publicly apologised to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over harsh comments and allegations he made against him during the 2023 presidential election campaign.
Omokri had previously accused Tinubu of falsely claiming to be a graduate of Chicago State University and levelled other controversial allegations against the President.
Reno Withdraws Allegations
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Omokri disclosed that he withdrew his past claims after the Supreme Court affirmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.
He also revealed that he personally visited Chicago State University and confirmed that Tinubu attended the institution, leading him to dismiss earlier allegations of certificate forgery.
Private Meeting With Tinubu
Omokri further disclosed that he held a private meeting with President Tinubu in October 2024, during which he apologised for the allegations he had previously made.
‘I Am Working For Nigeria’
Responding to questions about his past remarks that he would never work for the Tinubu administration, Omokri clarified that his position has not changed, noting that his new role is in service to the country rather than any individual.
He stated that as an ambassador-designate, he would be representing the Federal Republic of Nigeria and contributing to national development.
More reactions are expected from political stakeholders as the development continues to generate public interest.
