[JUST IN]: Ex-Kano Gov, Suffers Loss (Full Details)

The elder brother of former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Malam Dahiru Shekarau, has reportedly passed away.

Family sources confirmed that the late Shekarau died on Tuesday at a private hospital in Kano after a prolonged illness. He was a retired Permanent Secretary in the Kano State Civil Service and was widely known for his years of public service across several ministries.

During his career, Dahiru Shekarau rose through the ranks and eventually became Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology, a position he held until his retirement in 2015 after reaching the peak of his civil service career.

Funeral prayers for the deceased are scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Giginyu Jumu’at Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. Family members, associates, and sympathisers are expected to attend the Janazah prayer to pay their last respects. Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and acquaintances who described him as a dedicated and disciplined civil servant.

Kano Govt Denies Plan To Remove Emir Sanusi

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is tied to plans to remove the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, from the throne.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the reports as false and misleading, insisting there is no intention to alter the current emirate structure.

“There is no plan to replace Emir Sanusi on the throne of Kano. The appointment of the Emir was made after the emirate law was repealed, and there is no intention at the executive level to amend it,” he stated.

Bature further emphasised that any political realignment by the governor would not affect the emirate system, adding that Emir Sanusi remains the duly appointed Emir of Kano.

He urged residents not to politicise the emirate issue, attributing the rumours to the personal interests of certain individuals rather than government policy.

His clarification followed recent remarks by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, who said the government is pursuing dialogue and reconciliation to resolve the nearly two-year-long Kano Emirate crisis.

The crisis began after the removal of the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II, which led to competing claims to the throne. Waiya, however, expressed optimism that ongoing engagements among stakeholders would soon bring lasting peace to the emirate.
