English Premier League giants, Manchester United, have reportedly sacked Portuguese manager, Rúben Amorim, following a breakdown in relations within the club.
The development was revealed on Monday morning by reputable football transfer journalists, David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, in separate posts on X.
According to reports, Amorim was informed of his dismissal by Manchester United executives, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox.
Naija News reports that former club captain and technical staff member, Darren Fletcher, is expected to take charge of the team on an interim basis.
Ornstein wrote: “EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim as head coach… Darren Fletcher expected to take over on interim basis.”
Similarly, Romano posted: “BREAKING: Rúben Amorim has just been SACKED by Manchester United. Decision made this morning.”
It was gathered that the decision followed Amorim’s outburst after United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds, coupled with tensions over transfer-market alignment and a reported breakdown in relationship with Jason Wilcox.
Confirming the development, Manchester United stated that with the club sitting sixth in the Premier League, leadership believed it was the right time to make a change to give the team the best opportunity to finish as high as possible this season.
The club thanked Amorim for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours.
