President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and experienced Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecutor, Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information & Public Relations, State House.
According to the statement, the President approved Oyedepo’s transfer of service from the EFCC to the mainstream Federal Civil Service as DPP. The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated December 23 and signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, stating that the decision was made “in the public interest.”
Oyedepo will replace Abubakar Babadoko, who is expected to retire after completing his mandatory eight-year tenure as director on December 31, 2025.
A graduate of Law from the University of Ilorin (2007) and a 2008 Nigerian Law School alumnus, Oyedepo has served in the EFCC for over 15 years, specialising in the prosecution of complex economic and financial crimes. He also headed the Commission’s Monitoring Unit.
He was a member of the Federal Government’s legal team in the landmark Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) vs Federal Republic of Nigeria case and has received multiple recognitions, including EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year (2014) and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor (2019).
The Presidency noted that Oyedepo is expected to deploy his vast experience to reduce the Federal Government’s reliance on external counsel for key prosecutions and strengthen coherence in national legal strategies.
