The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disclosed that it is currently accommodating defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and other political platforms, describing them as “political refugees” fleeing internal instability.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said many of the new members were sidelined or pushed out of their former parties due to internal contradictions and leadership crises.
Speaking to journalists, Abdullahi explained that the ADC’s constitution was deliberately structured to prevent individuals or powerful blocs from hijacking the party’s structures.
He noted that unlike other political parties plagued by internal power struggles, ADC is building a new political culture where leadership exists but no individual exercises absolute control.
According to him, ADC has so far resisted the problem of unchecked political ambition that has destabilised many parties, stressing that no member has officially declared interest in contesting for governorship, Senate, or the presidency.
He added that zoning arrangements are not currently part of the party’s agenda, as the immediate focus is to build a strong, united, and credible opposition that Nigerians can trust.
Abdullahi further stated that the party is determined to grow steadily, prevent external interference, and create a stable platform capable of accommodating the future ambitions of all its members.
