Bandits on Friday evening reportedly invaded Adanla, a suburb of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting no fewer than seven persons and leaving the community in panic.
The attack, which occurred around 7 p.m. on December 26, 2025, disrupted the otherwise peaceful agrarian settlement as gunmen stormed the area and unleashed chaos.
A community leader and Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, confirmed the incident in an interview on Saturday.
“At about 7:30 p.m., we received a report from Adanla-Irese, a suburb of Igbaja, that bandits had entered the community,” he said.
According to him, the armed assailants invaded the community in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately and moving from house to house as residents fled for safety.
Oyin-Zubair explained that local hunters and vigilantes were immediately mobilised to the area, while security agencies were alerted.
“We also informed the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, who directed his men in the axis to respond swiftly,” he added.
He said soldiers later arrived in two operational trucks to reinforce local security personnel. However, before their arrival, the attackers had already abducted at least eight persons and injured a woman while firing sporadically to scare residents.
Residents said several people sustained injuries while escaping, with many families fleeing into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities to avoid further attacks.
As of Saturday morning, efforts were ongoing to obtain an official reaction from the police.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she had yet to receive a full briefing on the incident.
“I am yet to be properly briefed about the incident. I got the information last night too, but as soon as I have details, I will get back to you,” she stated.
Security patrols have reportedly been intensified in the area as fear and uncertainty linger among residents.
