An early-morning explosion on Tuesday rocked the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, sparking panic among residents and prompting a swift security response.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that no lives were lost. However, a building within the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged. Occupants of the affected building had reportedly evacuated before the blast.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies moved quickly to secure the facility and surrounding areas.
According to him, a combined team of police operatives, military personnel and vigilante members was deployed to the scene, while the area was cordoned off to prevent secondary incidents. Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD–CBRN) specialists were also dispatched to assess the site.
Usman stated that the Commissioner of Police ordered additional tactical deployments to maintain calm and reassure the public, adding that an investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the explosion.
Residents were advised to remain calm and steer clear of the immediate vicinity of the hospital to enable security agencies carry out their operations effectively as investigations continue.
