The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Dr. Sam Amadi, has said that President Bola Tinubustands a strong chance of winning the Middle Belt in the 2027 general elections if certain political dynamics unfold in his favour.
Amadi, who is a former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), made this assertion in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday.
According to him, Tinubu’s chances in the Middle Belt will hinge on the political strategies employed by both the President and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
“They are making it easier for Tinubu to win the Middle Belt. It depends on just two games from Tinubu and Peter Obi, and I will call the zone for Tinubu,” Amadi wrote.
His comments come amid speculations about the defection of former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — a move seen by analysts as part of the wider political realignments ahead of 2027.
Amadi suggested that such shifts within the political landscape could bolster Tinubu’s efforts to consolidate support in the strategically important Middle Belt region.
The Middle Belt has long been regarded as a swing region in Nigeria’s presidential elections, often determining the final outcome due to its diverse demographics and voting patterns.
Amadi’s remarks add to ongoing debates about how alliances, defections, and opposition strategies may shape the 2027 general elections, with political observers closely watching developments across Nigeria’s central region.
