Tinubu Mourns Dr Christopher Kolade, Describes His Death as a Painful Loss
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Christopher Kolade, describing the veteran broadcaster, diplomat, and corporate leader as “one of Nigeria’s finest men.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, President Tinubu said he received the news of Dr Kolade’s death “with profound sadness,” calling it a painful development and a great loss to the nation.

As earlier reported, Dr Kolade, who served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 92. His family confirmed his passing in an official statement.

In his tribute, President Tinubu praised Dr Kolade for his exemplary integrity, intellect, and lifelong service to Nigeria and humanity.

“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of the inimitable Dr Christopher Kolade, a broadcaster and boardroom guru who is one of Nigeria’s intellectual treasures,” Tinubu said.

“Dr Kolade, 92, was a custodian of our enterprise history, especially concerning corporate governance and human resources management. He was a principal figure in reputable institutions like the Lagos Business School.”

The President described the late statesman as “exceptionally brilliant, diligent, and statesmanly,” highlighting his distinguished service in both public and private sectors.

“Dr Kolade was not only a boardroom icon, serving as one-time chief executive and chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, but he was also a patriot and an uncompromising advocate of transparency and accountability in governance,” Tinubu added.

He further recalled Kolade’s notable contributions as an education officer during the colonial era, Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, and his philanthropic efforts through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, especially in supporting sickle cell patients.

“Dr Kolade’s passing is agonising, yet we must celebrate his life and legacy. He lived an exemplary life and immortalised himself in his uncommon service to our nation and humanity. He will remain an inspiration for many generations,” the President said.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Kolade family and prayed that God grant the departed statesman eternal rest.
