A man identified as Jamal Oluwafemi Oriyomi Folorunsho, who falsely claimed to be the first son of the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki, has allegedly defrauded a Qatar-based Nigerian lady, Nosirudeen Mutiat Opeyemi, of ₦2 million in a romance and land investment scam.
According to Onspot News Nigeria, Jamal and Opeyemi met earlier this year on Facebook, where their casual chats gradually developed into a distant relationship.
Opeyemi revealed in an interview that as their relationship deepened, Jamal began discussing future plans and business opportunities, claiming to work for PWAN Homes, a real estate firm allegedly owned by his father, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki.
He reportedly convinced Opeyemi to purchase a plot of land through him, promising that the land and payment receipts would be handed over after she completed installment payments. Trusting his claims, Opeyemi began transferring money in tranches starting in February 2025, amounting to ₦2 million.
However, after the full payment was made, Jamal blocked her on all communication channels, cutting off contact completely.
Opeyemi also alleged that Jamal had an accomplice, posing as a real estate agent, who occasionally called to give fake updates on the supposed land allocation before also blocking her.
She narrated, “I started noticing Jamal only reached out whenever it was time for me to send money. If I tried calling him before then, his numbers would not connect. But I thought it was just a coincidence.”
Further investigations by Opeyemi revealed that Jamal is currently chatting with another lady using the same tactics — unaware that the new target is a close friend of Opeyemi. This suggests that Jamal may be a serial fraudster preying on unsuspecting women through online dating platforms.
Checks on Jamal’s Facebook profile show that he presents himself as a real estate expert offering “Estate Development, Investment, and Home Services,” listing an office address at Puri Mall Building, KM 25 Lekki-Epe Expressway, Oko Odo, opposite Leawood Hotel, Ajah, Lagos.
As of the time of filing this report, all efforts to contact Jamal through phone calls and WhatsApp messages proved abortive, as he failed to respond.
