Nurse Killed In Zaria While Resisting Phone Snatchers

A heartbreaking tragedy has hit Zaria, Kaduna State, following the brutal killing of Hadiza Musa, the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, who was attacked by suspected assailants attempting to snatch her mobile phone.

According to Naija News, the incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Filin Mallawa area of Tudun Wada, Zaria, while the late Hadiza was returning home after visiting a salon and an Islamic chemist.

Her husband, Hamza Ibrahim Idris, who works in Abuja, confirmed the devastating news. He said his last conversation with his wife took place around 6 p.m., shortly after she left the chemist.

“After transferring some money to her, our last call was when she left the chemist. From then, I couldn’t reach her again. I kept calling till the following morning, thinking her phone battery had gone down,” Idris said.

He explained that his wife had boarded a commercial motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. when she was attacked by unknown assailants who tried to snatch her phone.

“There were signs that her hands were squeezed, showing someone forced her hands while trying to take the phone. They also hit her hard on the head, and she bled profusely, which I believe led to her death,” he added painfully.

The attackers reportedly dumped her unconscious body by the roadside near Mallawa Eid Ground in Tudun Wada. A good Samaritan who discovered her rushed her to a nearby clinic, but she was later referred to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, where doctors confirmed her dead.

Her husband further revealed that the tragedy struck barely three months after the death of Hadiza’s sister, whose three children she had adopted.

“She now left behind three of her own children and the three she adopted,” Idris said in grief.

The Hospital SecretaryAbdulkadir Balele Wali, described the deceased as a dedicated and compassionate nursewho was deeply committed to her duty.

“She was the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit and had worked till late hours on Friday. She was professional, hardworking, and committed to saving lives. Her death is a great loss to the entire hospital,” Wali stated.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and sorrow across Zaria, with residents calling on security agencies to intensify patrols and bring the culprits to justice.

Hadiza Musa’s untimely death has thrown both her family and colleagues into mourning, underscoring the growing security challenges in urban areas where petty crimes are turning increasingly deadly.
