The Kebbi State Government has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media alleging the existence of a secret airport in Argungu forest being used for cocaine smuggling.
Reacting to the claims on Wednesday, Malam Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir Idris, described the video as false, fabricated, and malicious.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, Sarki said there has never been any case of drug trafficking or illegal airport operations in Argungu Local Government Area or any other part of the state. He clarified that the only functional airport in Kebbi remains the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport located in Birnin Kebbi.
“Contrary to the misleading claims, Argungu has never had an airport, airstrip, or any facility related to aviation,” he stated.
Sarki further alleged that the video was part of a deliberate attempt to discredit the government and tarnish its image, stressing that all names and characters mentioned in the clip were fictitious.
He also noted that no investigation had been conducted by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), or any other security agency to validate such allegations.
“The entire content of the video is false and misleading. It was only meant to create unnecessary tension among citizens,” Sarki emphasized.
He urged members of the public to disregard the video, reaffirming that Governor Idris’s administration remains committed to transparency, good governance, and collaboration with all federal security and anti-drug agencies.
