Nigeria Defeat Lesotho 2-1 to Keep 2026 World Cup Hopes Alive

Super Eagles of Nigeria kept their qualification hopes for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Lesotho on Friday evening.

Nigeria entered the crucial fixture sitting third in their qualifying group with 11 points, trailing South Africa and group leaders Benin Republic. Determined to stay in contention, the Eagles dominated the first half but failed to convert several clear chances.

After the restart, Nigeria finally broke the deadlock when captain William Troost-Ekong confidently converted a penalty. Moments later, debutant Akor Adams marked his first appearance in national colours with a well-taken goal to double the advantage.

Lesotho managed to reduce the deficit following a defensive lapse by Nigeria, but the Super Eagles held firm to secure all three points.

The victory keeps Nigeria’s World Cup dream alive as they prepare to face Benin Republic in their final qualifying match next Tuesday in Uyo.
