According to reliable government sources, the 69-year-old minister recently suffered a fall and is said to be unable to move his hands and knees, raising fresh concerns about his condition.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that Edun’s health had deteriorated over the weekend, prompting his emergency evacuation from Lagos to London late Monday night via a British Airways flight.
A source confirmed that the minister first travelled from Abuja to Lagos before departing for the United Kingdom, where he is expected to undergo advanced medical care.
Until his departure, Presidency officials maintained that Edun was recuperating at his Abuja residence under the supervision of local doctors. However, insiders say his condition worsened, necessitating overseas treatment.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga confirmed that the finance minister had been ill, describing him as “indisposed but recuperating.”
The development has also forced Edun to miss the 2025 World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., with Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso now leading the Nigerian delegation.
Appointed in August 2023, Edun has been one of President Bola Tinubu’s closest economic advisers, overseeing fiscal reforms, revenue policy, and budget planning.
His illness comes at a sensitive period for the administration as it prepares the 2026 budget and implements key economic policies under the ongoing fiscal reform agenda.
