Hoodlums reportedly set fire to the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State on Monday, ahead of the scheduled inauguration of the party’s State Executive Council.
The incident destroyed several properties, including a 1,000-capacity canopy with chairs, another 150-capacity canopy, and parts of the building.
Party members condemned the attack, urging security agencies to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Despite the setback, ADC loyalists have gathered at the party’s Basiri Road secretariat, awaiting the arrival of national officers who are expected to formally inaugurate the state’s new executive members.
Some party officials cautioned political thugs against actions that could escalate tension in the state, expressing bewilderment that such violence occurred even before campaigns had officially begun.
