“If Tinubu Fails, No Other President May Succeed” — Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged President Bola Tinubu to seize what he described as a “unique opportunity” to reset Nigeria and put the nation on the path to lasting greatness.

Speaking during an interview on TVC on Tuesday, Sani cautioned that if President Tinubu fails to deliver meaningful reforms, it may become difficult for any future leader to succeed.

He advised the President to prioritize competence over political loyalty when making appointments, recalling how Tinubu once assembled a team of capable technocrats during his tenure as Lagos State Governor.

“The standard he set in Lagos, where he brought the best people to lead, must now be applied nationwide,” Sani said.
“If you have someone with a brilliant mind who can redeem the economy, you must consider what he offers, not his political leaning.”

According to him, Tinubu must think beyond short-term political considerations and focus on the nation’s long-term future.

“It is incumbent on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to know that he has the unique opportunity as a leader to reset, reshape and reconfigure the destiny and future of this country,” he added.
“Those in power today are in their 60s and 70s. By 2040, many of them will be gone. What future are we leaving for the younger generation?”

‘Reforms Are Painful but Necessary’

Sani stressed that true national progress comes only through bold reforms and sacrifices, noting that no country becomes great by accident.

He cited examples of nations like Singapore, Indonesia, and China, which endured years of tough reforms before achieving success.

“There is no perfect country in the world. None started perfectly,” he said.
“If we don’t do what needs to be done now, we’ll still be complaining 25 years from today.”

Naija News reports that Sani’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about the pace and impact of President Tinubu’s economic and political reforms since assuming office in May 2023.
