Deputy Chief Whip of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Ted Elemeforo, has called on President Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to publicly apologise to former President Goodluck Jonathan for implementing the same fuel subsidy policy they had vehemently opposed during his administration.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, Elemeforo accused the APC of hypocrisy, saying the party had criticized and protested against Jonathan’s fuel subsidy policy, only to adopt similar measures after assuming power.
“In this country, there is always a double standard,” Elemeforo said. “People like Tinubu who protested against oil subsidy need to publicly apologize to President Goodluck Jonathan for implementing what they earlier criticized.”
He recalled that many of the reasons the APC used to campaign against Jonathan in 2015 were the same issues the ruling party is now guilty of.
The Bayelsa lawmaker also expressed his lack of confidence in the Tinubu administration, stating that the APC has failed to provide meaningful solutions to the nation’s economic and social challenges.
“I do not believe that the APC is a solution to Nigeria’s problem, and I do not have faith in the Tinubu-led APC government,” he said. “I believe that the PDP would offer a better alternative to solve the problem of Nigeria.”
Commenting on the recent wave of defections across political parties, Elemeforo said his decision to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was based on conviction, noting that the PDP has greater capacity to reposition and rebuild the country than the APC.
