The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 28-year-old bank employee, Chidinma Nkemdirim, before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing ₦6.6 million belonging to FCMB Microfinance Bank, Ketu branch.
Nkemdirim, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with stealing by trick, an offence the police say occurred between January and July 2025 while she was working at the bank located at 454/457 Ikorodu Road, Ketu.
According to the prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, the defendant fraudulently converted ₦6.6 million, the property of her employer, for personal use. Ikhayere told the court that the theft was discovered following an internal audit conducted by the microfinance bank.
The prosecutor noted that the alleged offence contravenes Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Presiding Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted Nkemdirim ₦800,000 bail with two sureties in like sum. The court directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned until December 1, 2025, for further hearing.
