‘You’re Making Savings From Fuel Subsidy Removal; Where Is Whole Money Going To?’—Amaechi Knocks Tinubu

Abuja, FCT
– Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has thrown a direct challenge at President Bola Tinubu, demanding accountability for the savings accumulated from the removal of the fuel subsidy. Amaechi's pointed query comes as Nigerians continue to grapple with severe economic hardship and soaring inflation since President Tinubu's assumption of office.

During an interview on Channels Television’s "Politics Today" on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Amaechi did not mince words, directly questioning the current administration's economic management. "You’re making savings from removing the subsidy, from floating the naira — where is the money? Where is it going?" he emphatically asked, highlighting the disconnect between government rhetoric and the lived realities of citizens.

Amaechi strongly accused the Tinubu administration of mismanaging the nation's economy, asserting that its policies have only deepened poverty across the country. He maintained that the current government has "completely ruined the economy," stressing that any economic strategy that fails to directly improve the financial well-being of Nigerians cannot be considered a genuine economic policy.

Furthermore, the former minister lamented the drastic shift in Nigeria's socio-economic landscape, which he described as having collapsed into just two classes: the elite and the poor. He criticized the current government for allegedly fostering a system where only its members enjoy wealth, leading to the disappearance of the middle class and a continuous surge in the number of impoverished citizens.

Amaechi issued a grim prognosis for the nation's poor, warning, "At this rate, a time will come when the poor will no longer be visible — because they’ll all be dead."

This direct challenge from Amaechi adds to the increasing scrutiny of the present administration's economic decisions, echoing sentiments from other political figures like Senator Ali Ndume, who recently suggested that "If One Compares Buhari’s Regime to Current Govt, Buhari Gets a Thumbs Up."
