Tinubu concludes strategic visit to Saint Lucia
Tinubu was seen off at Hewanorra International Airport by Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre after completing a six-day official visit that began on June 28.
A major highlight of the visit was the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Saint Lucia. The two countries signed a Technical Manpower Assistance Agreement, which will allow skilled Nigerian professionals to be deployed in sectors vital to Saint Lucia’s development.
“This partnership will drive mutual prosperity and long-term cooperation,” an official told Naija Blog.
Meetings with top officials
President Tinubu also held high-level meetings with:
Governor General Cyril Errol Charles
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre
Discussions centered on investment opportunities, cultural ties, and trade partnerships. In a symbolic gesture, Tinubu also addressed a joint session of the Saint Lucian Senate and House of Assembly at Sandals Grande, where he reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to closer engagement with Caribbean nations.
Onward to Brazil for BRICS 2025
From the Caribbean, Tinubu now proceeds to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, where he is expected to meet with other world leaders including:
President Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa)
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi (Egypt)
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ethiopia)
The summit will focus on global economic cooperation, South-South alliances, and trade realignment among emerging economies.
Nigeria’s growing diplomatic strategy
Tinubu’s back-to-back visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil underscore Nigeria’s ambition to reposition itself as a global influencer within the Global South, with stronger ties to Caribbean and Latin American nations.
The newly signed manpower agreement with Saint Lucia is expected to create job opportunities for Nigerian professionals and open up strategic cultural exchanges.
