Tinubu-Branded 'Plantain Chips' Spark Reactions as 2027 Campaign Materials Surface

A video has surfaced online showing branded snacks allegedly linked to an early grassroots campaign for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, sparking widespread debate among Nigerians.

In the viral footage, plantain chips packaged in transparent plastic containers are boldly labeled with the inscription “Jagaban 2027 Door 2 Door Movement.” The branding suggests the materials may be part of a door-to-door mobilisation strategy aimed at building early support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The video has drawn mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing surprise and skepticism over what appears to be an unusually early start to political campaigning.

However, the individual seen in the video clarified that he is not a political supporter but merely executing a business contract.

“Na contract they give me, I'm not campaigning for anybody. So na contract, now na money they go pay me,” the man states in the video.

“Imagine, they don't begin the campaign for 2027. It's the money I'm interested in.”

Opposition Mobilises for 2027

Meanwhile, as political activities subtly intensify, opposition leaders are also reportedly aligning ahead of the 2027 elections. SaharaReporters previously reported that several prominent figures have adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform, appointing former Senate President David Mark as protem national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as protem national secretary.

The coalition emerged from a high-level strategy meeting, which included a number of influential politicians across various parties. Among those in attendance were:

  • Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi

  • Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi

  • Former APC National Chairman, John Oyegun

  • Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami

  • Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai

  • Former Cross River Governor, Liyel Imoke

  • Former House Speaker and ex-Governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal

  • And influential political figure Kashim Imam, among others.

The developments suggest that the political landscape is already shifting, with early signs of intensifying grassroots campaigns and high-level coalitions shaping the road to 2027.
