Kashere, Nigeria – July 1, 2025 — The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Professor Umaru Pate, has commended the Federal Government for the successful implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), revealing that over 8,266 students of the institution have benefitted from the initiative.
Speaking during a press briefing ahead of the university’s upcoming convocation ceremonies, Pate described the loan fund as a transformative intervention in Nigeria’s higher education system. He disclosed that the students collectively received a total of ₦1,073,966,500 to cover service charges and monthly upkeep.
“In the last 10 to 20 years, no programme has impacted the lives of Nigerian students like NELFUND,” Pate stated, adding that the fund has brought significant relief to students and their families.
He expressed optimism that more students would still be enrolled under the scheme as it expands nationwide.
In the same briefing, the Vice Chancellor also announced that a total of 6,870 undergraduates would graduate during the combined sixth to ninth convocation ceremonies. Among them, 91 students earned first-class degrees, while 1,899obtained second class upper division. Another 3,917 are graduating with second class lower division, and 960 students are leaving with third class degrees.
Out of the graduating class, 4,791 are male and 2,079 female, highlighting a gender gap the university aims to address through increased enrolment efforts.
