APC Nasarawa Chairman Aliyu Bello Suspended Hours After Confidence Vote

LAFIA — The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, has been suspended by his ward leadership for alleged anti-party activities — just hours after APC leaders in the state passed a vote of confidence on him.

The dramatic suspension was announced Tuesday by the Chairman of APC Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area, Ibrahim Ilyasu, during a press briefing in the state capital.

Ilyasu said the decision followed a unanimous resolution by all ward executives, accusing Bello of breaching Article 21 of the APC constitution by openly promoting and campaigning for an opposition candidate.

“In line with the powers vested in us as ward executives under Article 21 (D) (i)-(iii) of the APC constitution... we have resolved that you, Hon. Aliyu Bello, are hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The ward leadership claimed to have credible evidence that Bello’s actions had brought the party into “hatred, contempt, ridicule or disrepute,” violating key sections of the party’s disciplinary code.

“Your actions have caused embarrassment to the party, undermined the credibility of our collective efforts, and constitute a serious breach of party loyalty and discipline,” Ilyasu added.

Bello has been warned to stop parading himself as a party member or official pending the outcome of internal disciplinary processes.

Meanwhile, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Otaru Douglas, had earlier raised alarm over what he described as a “planned and sponsored move” by one of the state's governorship aspirants to engineer Bello’s suspension — suggesting deeper internal rifts within the party hierarchy.

The development highlights a deepening crisis in the Nasarawa APC as factions clash over control and influence ahead of future elections.
