Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has officially stepped down as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing health concerns as the reason for his resignation.
The former Kano State governor made the announcement on Friday, stating that the decision was necessary to allow him focus on his personal well-being.
While Ganduje attributed his resignation to health reasons, sources within the party suggest the move followed intense pressure from APC stakeholders—particularly from the North Central zone—who have consistently demanded that the chairmanship return to their region.
His resignation also comes amid growing internal opposition over his leadership style and the party’s power structure, with some factions accusing him of sidelining key blocs and contributing to internal instability.
Following his exit, the party’s National Vice Chairman is expected to assume leadership in an acting capacity, pending the APC’s national convention slated for December.
Ganduje’s departure marks a significant moment for the ruling party, as it navigates a turbulent political climate with calls for internal reforms and more inclusive leadership.
